Ingredients

4 medium apples, peeled, cored, and sliced (preferably a mix of sweet and tart)

2 tbsp maple syrup (adjust based on apple sweetness)

1 tsp cinnamon

1/2 tsp nutmeg

1 tbsp lemon juice

1 cup rolled oats

1/2 cup almond flour

1/4 cup chopped walnuts or pecans

2 tbsp coconut oil, melted (or unsalted butter)

1/4 cup unsweetened applesauce

Pinch of salt

Instructions

In a large skillet over medium heat, combine the sliced apples, maple syrup, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Stir gently until the apples are well coated.

Cook the apples for about 5-7 minutes until they start to soften, stirring occasionally.

While the apples are cooking, in a mixing bowl, combine the rolled oats, almond flour, chopped nuts, melted coconut oil, applesauce, and a pinch of salt. Mix everything until it resembles a crumbly mixture.

Once the apples are softened but still hold their shape, remove the skillet from the heat and evenly spread the oat mixture over the apples.

Place the skillet in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) and bake for 20-25 minutes until the topping is golden brown and crispy.

Remove from the oven and let it cool slightly before serving. Enjoy it warm, perhaps with a dollop of Greek yogurt or a scoop of vanilla ice cream!
