Ingredients

1 cup strong brewed coffee (cooled)

2 tablespoons coffee liqueur (optional)

3 large egg yolks

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1 cup mascarpone cheese

1 cup heavy whipping cream

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 package ladyfinger cookies (savoiardi)

Unsweetened cocoa powder (for dusting)

Dark chocolate shavings (for garnish)

Instructions

Prepare the Coffee Mixture: In a shallow dish, combine the cooled brewed coffee and coffee liqueur. Set aside.

Make the Egg Mixture: In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together the egg yolks and granulated sugar until pale and fluffy. This should take about 3-4 minutes.

Incorporate Mascarpone: Gently fold the mascarpone cheese into the egg mixture until smooth and fully combined. Be careful not to overmix.

Whip the Cream: In a separate bowl, whisk the heavy cream and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form.

Combine Cream and Egg Mixture: Gently fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone and egg mixture until everything is well combined and creamy.

Assemble the Cups: Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the coffee mixture, making sure not to soak them. Lay half of the dipped ladyfingers at the bottom of serving cups (about 6 cups).

Layer the Cream Mixture: Spoon half of the mascarpone cream mixture over the layer of ladyfingers.

Repeat the Layers: Repeat the process with the remaining ladyfingers, dipping and layering as before, followed by the remaining mascarpone cream on top.

Chill: Cover the cups with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, ideally overnight, to allow the flavors to meld.

Serve: Just before serving, dust the tops with cocoa powder and sprinkle with dark chocolate shavings for an elegant touch.
